Hillside Outdoor Education School

Hillside is a day-use outdoor education school. Students from schools located in the east region of Toronto have an opportunity to partake in our cross curricular programs. Classes range from kindergarten to grade eight.

Hillside’s outdoor classroom is located in the Rouge Park, Canada’s largest urban park, over 47 km2 of natural landscapes waiting to dazzle you with its spectacular forests, meadows, ponds and wetlands.

Students visiting Hillside are introduced a wide array of programs with a focus on an aspect of The Ontario Curriculum. Direct, hands-on outdoor experiences deepen connections to nature and enhance children’s health and well-being.

Our programs provide education about the environment, in the environment and for the environment as outlined in the Ministry of Education’s policy framework on environmental education, Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow. They are designed in collaboration with visiting teachers so that it enhances and strengthens the programs that teachers are delivering in their own classrooms. We provide support materials, before and after the Hillside experience, including activities teachers can conduct in their classrooms or schoolyards, and assessment tools for teaching in the outdoor classroom.
